Underpainting for Peacemaker

Always nice to have several projects underway. About two days into this one; the blank canvas on the right will have interior elements for context .... the intention is to place objects in a arrangement that is at once abstract, and suggestive of interior-architectural forms.

Here's Serge after another day of work. The face is very close, but still not quite satisfied with the likeness, Will leave that to dry and go to the hat.

work in progress, Seafarer Study

This is an unfinished study for a larger, formal portrait of Serge in dress uniform.... after two painting sessions - one for the tonal underpainting, and the second for the initial color rendering. Usually the likeness of the subject has been well established by this point, but not so much with this painting so far. By the end of the next session, it should really feel like Serge.

Annie and Svetlana find a new Home

Walking School, finished over a year ago ... with Annie, Svetlana and the guardian hawk as they embark on their cross country walk, leaving Southwest Georgia early on a cold January morning.

Santa Knows

Santa Knows, started In 2006, is a series of Santa paintings originally used each year for a Christmas card. Einstein was 2011 I think.

Alia in Lines

Experimenting with reinterpreting architectural forms in a series of interiors ... here with one of my favorite models, Alia.

Beach Stripes

Simplified landscape scene inspired by an old Sykes family photo.

Murder She Wrote

This is a little scene from my Brookwood studio, with my crazy tailless cat Alia. I was working on it during the (also crazy) election, and somehow angry intensity of the news climate led me to over-correct .... creating the artistic version of a literary "cozy" ... a sweet and comfortable formula, like Murder She Wrote.

Honey Bear

Sweet ALL CAPS girl rescued by Kathleen Donnelly.
